At the latest after watching the series „The Queens Gambit“, I also dreamed of the visualization skills that the main character has. It has to be said that she only mastered this ability by taking a pill or two, but it still taught me how far this ability can take you in life.

The series is about a little girl who secretly practices chess in a nursing home. The pills given to her by the home to calm her down help her to practice chess in her mind at night, when everyone else is asleep, just through the art of visualization.

Chess is actually a good example of the art of visualization. You can visualize the next moves and countermoves, which gives you an immense advantage. If you follow my posts closely, you will have heard of thought palaces.

People are much better at remembering things if they can associate them with something relevant. A thought palace uses this principle to create an imaginary palace or place in your head where you can imagine things or cognitively associate certain objects in your thought palace with the things you want to remember.

These thought palaces function through nothing other than the ability to visualize. So now that you know the benefits, I want to give you tips on how you can do the same.

1. Meditations

Meditation is a topic that has been mentioned at least briefly in every one of my posts so far and that’s because it’s so important to the topics in this profile: Productivity and Mental Health. In relation to both topics, you can personally benefit from daily meditations.

Meditations provide a clear mind and a clear mind is exactly what we need. If you want to know more ways to get a clear mind, have a look at my profile and you will find a post about it somewhere.

2. Visualization exercises

2.1 Imagine certain situations or places

This is the first step that really has to do with visualization as such. When we visualize certain things, we train the skill we want to master, which means we are on the right track.

2.2 Write or draw down what you imagine

To further strengthen this skill, it helps to bring the place, object or situation you have imagined into reality. When you draw something by hand, you automatically reflect on the last step of the action.

3. Create a habit

Habits. A topic that every productivity lover and attentive reader of my posts has heard of. It’s about integrating a fixed habit into your everyday life that includes the last two steps. If you manage to do this, you will be able to increase your ability to visualize immeasurably within a few weeks or even days.

In conclusion, the art of visualization is a skill that anyone can use. Especially if you are as in love with productivity as I am. I hope I was able to help you with today’s post.
