In today’s article, I write about a special topic that will interest every copywriter and anyone who is building an audience right now: Twitter Growth. In this article, I will share the things that are especially important for beginners and that are not mentioned in most courses, for which you even have to pay money because with their thousands of followers they can’t even think like beginners anymore. I can do that, I can think like a beginner because honestly, I am still a beginner. My Twitter account has just 20 followers, but do not think that is because I could not have more, I know the secret to generating many followers. And I would like to share this secret with you today. I generally like to write longer texts and that’s why I don’t like Twitter with its 280-character limit, but I can recommend Threads, the app is similar to Twitter only you can write up to 500 characters, that’s not much but still more than Twitter, sorry I mean X, of course. (A summary is at the end)
If you are a beginner on Twitter, I recommend you to start like this:
1. The perfect profile
To create the perfect profile, 3 things are especially important:
- your bio
- 2. your profile picture
- 3. your banner
First your bio, in it, you should explain who you are and what you do with as many keywords as possible, i.e., words that the algorithm responds to and pushes your profile. Your bio is usually the last thing people look at, but is, of course, still essential because if they look so closely at your profile, then they should also convince your whole profile and this includes on your bio. Thereafter, your profile picture, on your profile picture they should see you, that conveys openness and transparency and also that there really is a person behind the keyboard and the tweets. Your profile picture is also seen when you see your tweets, which means you should pay special attention to your profile picture. Finally, is your profile banner. I think that the banner is maybe the most important thing on your profile because on the banner you have the most space and freedom to follow the people who come to your profile. Despite all the space, you should keep it simple, but with a clear call-to-action that people should follow you. Once you have followed all that, comes the next step.
2. The perfect content
Once you’ve finished setting up your profile, now you need to start creating content. Especially in the beginning (between 1 – 1000 followers, yes that’s the beginning because you have such immense growth opportunities on Twitter) you should limit yourself to tweets and avoid Twitter threads. I would recommend you post between 2 and 5 tweets spread throughout the day. You might have noticed that this section is quite short and yes, it is because, especially in the beginning, it’s not about how good your content is but about something else; I’ll go into that in the next point. But before I do that, I have a challenge for you, in a month I will dedicate a separate post to this point here, for the perfect content because then you have 1000 followers, and you have to write really well content. So my challenge to you is that you generate 1000 followers in a month and then the next part of this Twitter Growth series will come and help you up to the 10,000 followers. (If you are already interested in some tips for optimal and well-written tweets, then I can recommend you this account @isvmedia2023, there are daily tweets published with short and helpful tips about it).
3. The first followers
In the last and most important point, you will now learn that perfect content is by far not the most important thing to generate followers in the beginning, not even the profile, but your interactions are the most important. With interactions, you draw attention to your profile and there it is exactly where we want it. Interactions include:
- comments
- 2. likes
- 3. retweets
- 4. quotes
I would say comments make up 75% and are therefore the most significant. But the rest is also very essential, so you have to think about that too. The ultimate interaction matrix is the following: comment 20 times (if you notice that this works well then you can also increase to 50 daily), at least 5 retweets and the rest is actually not so necessary, so I won’t give you a real number to orientate yourself by but just do it like I do according to feeling I just wouldn’t overdo it with it. The good thing about comments under posts with more views is that when people look in the comments that your comment also gets views and that could then be a lead magnet to your profile. So make sure that your comments have a certain value that brings something to the readers and makes them see more of them on your profile. Your comments have to be basically simple and relatable. Also note that the attention of people with a blue tick on Twitter is worth more, this is set in the algorithm. So if a lot of verified people follow you and interact with you, then, that’s superb for your profile.
So to summarize once again:
20 comments daily
2–5 tweets daily
5 retweets daily
Likes, quotes, etc. as many as you want – just don’t overdo it
I hope I could help you with these tips, and we will see each other in a month when you have gained your first 1000 followers. After that, it is not so much work to generate more followers because you are a big fish and people have to interact with you, and you can fully concentrate on well content. When you have 1000 followers, the saying of capitalism applies: He who has will be given. And it’s like an upward spiral. You will get more and more followers and faster and faster.
